Morris on the apps, honestly
The best golf apps, compared by the job
Morris is one of these apps, so this page has a rule: everything said about the others comes from their own websites or store listings, read on the date below, with no ranking and no adjectives. Pick by what you want the app for, then read the row.

Pick by the job
- 1
You want distances and a scorecard
Any of the GPS apps' free tiers. Pay when you want plays-like distances and club recommendations on courses you do not know, or shot tracking you will actually review.
- 2
You want to know where your strokes go
Strokes gained needs every shot's start and end: Arccos sensors, or a Garmin watch (and Badgie Golf reads Garmin shots into strokes gained for Morris). The number only helps if someone turns it into practice.
- 3
You want to see your swing
V1 Golf and OnForm are built for video, and coaches use them to send lessons. Morris's free analyzer measures your body on each frame and gives one cause, one feel and one drill, without an account.
- 4
You want a coach, not a dashboard
Morris reads the rounds, the handicap, the Garmin distances and the swing video and gives you the next thing to work on, on WhatsApp, with the Rules looked up in the official text when you ask. That is what a specialist agent adds to an app.
What this page does not do
It does not rank, it does not test accuracy, it does not say which app is better. Each row is what the company says about itself, with the price on its own page or listing and the date we read it. If a line is wrong because a page changed, tell Morris on WhatsApp and it gets corrected. More: the GPS apps in detail, is Arccos worth it, and what an AI golf coach does.

App questions
What is the best golf app?
There is no best, there is a job. For distances and a scorecard, the free tiers of 18Birdies, Hole19 and Golfshot all do it; for automatic shot tracking with strokes gained, Arccos with sensors or a Garmin watch with its app; for your swing on video, V1 Golf or OnForm; for a coach who reads all of it and tells you one thing to work on, Morris on WhatsApp with Badgie Golf. Prices and features here are from each app's own site or listing.
Which golf apps are free?
Garmin Golf is free (its paid membership adds maps, contours and the simulator). 18Birdies, Hole19 and Golfshot have free tiers with GPS and scoring and paid tiers for club recommendations, shot tracking and advanced stats. Morris's web swing analyzer is free without an account, and signing up for Morris on WhatsApp is free with monthly limits.
Is a paid golf app worth it?
If you use the feature it pays for: plays-like distances and club recommendations on a course you do not know, strokes gained if you will act on it, swing video if you will film and review. A subscription you open twice a season is not. Try the free tier for a month first.
What does an AI golf coach app do that a GPS app does not?
It reads your numbers and tells you what to do next. A GPS app gives you a distance; a tracker gives you strokes gained; a coach says 'your approach play from 120 to 160 is costing you three strokes a round, here is the one thing to fix and the drill'. That is the difference between data and coaching.
