Shotgun, not sniper rifle
Aim at the gap, accept the spread.
Why
Scott Fawcett nails it: 'you're not out there with a sniper rifle, it's more of a shotgun.' Every club has a dispersion pattern, and it's wider than you assume. A player who carries the driver 280 yards spreads 55 to 70 yards wide; even elite amateurs sit around 60-70. And beware the 'I eliminate one side' myth: Dustin Johnson, one of the best drivers in the world with his lifelong fade, misses the fairway almost identically left and right — and he was #1 in strokes gained off the tee in 2016 and 2017. Everyone has a two-way miss.
