  • This is the R&A's example. The eagle and the rest of the scale are set by the terms of the competition.

It is played like Stableford, but the scale gives more for good play and subtracts for bad play. For example: 4 points for a birdie, 2 for a par and −1 for a bogey or worse (Committee Procedures, 9A). The exact scale is set by the terms of the competition.

The cases that raise questions

Handicap

The terms of the competition set it.

WHS Appendix C gives no allowance for this format: there is no recommended or usual percentage, and the one for a similar format does not carry over. If the terms of the competition do not say, the Committee decides.

Basis in the Rules

Not a form of play of its own in the Rules: Rule 21.5 lets them be adapted and the R&A describes it in its Committee Procedures (Section 9A). The points scale is set by the terms of the competition.
