ChatGPT vs a golf-specialist AI coach
Ask a general chatbot why you slice and you get a good essay. Ask a golf agent and it asks for the video. That is the whole difference, and it is worth being precise about, because the chatbot is genuinely useful for half the questions.

Where the chatbot is the right tool
Learning the game: what a hybrid is, how match play works, the history of the R&A. Writing: the message to the group, the trip itinerary. Thinking out loud about strategy before a round. For those, a general model is excellent and a specialist adds little. The specialist earns its place when the answer must come from your numbers or from a text that has to be right, and when you want someone to hold you to one thing for a month.

Can ChatGPT be my golf coach?
It can explain any part of the game, suggest drills for a fault you describe and write a plan. What it cannot do is see your swing (unless you describe it), know your handicap or your rounds, measure your distances, or guarantee the rule it quotes is the current text. A description of a slice gets a description of a fix.
What does a golf-specialist AI do differently?
It starts from data, not from a description: your swing measured on video, your rounds and official handicap, your Garmin distances and strokes gained. It looks the Rules up before quoting them, reads a course's own website for a price and says the source and the date, and gives one thing to work on with a drill and reps, then follows it.
Is a general chatbot wrong about golf?
Mostly not; it is well read. The risk is confidence: a rule number from memory that changed in 2019, a 'typical' distance that is not yours, five fixes at once. A specialist is built to say 'I have not read that' and to pick one fix.
Why not just paste my numbers into a chatbot?
You can, every time, and keep the thread. A golf agent keeps them for you, reads the watch itself, and remembers what you were working on last month. That memory is what makes it coaching rather than answers.
